Central Wisconsin Team Repeats as RAGANR Great River Relay Winners

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (August 20, 2011)

RE: RAGANR Great River Relay Winners from Central Wisconsin

A team of 12 masters runners (all over 40 years old) sponsored by RevelSports.com and Marshfield Clinic won the Great River Relay this past Saturday. It was an epic battle over a grueling 194 miles from Winona MN along the Wisconsin side of the Mississippi and St. Croix rivers ending at East River Flats Park in Minneapolis.

Running 194.4 miles in an overnight relay race the course divided into 36 legs, each team member runs three of those legs, ranging between 3 and 9.2 miles each. This relay race is physically demanding with little to no sleep.

294 teams started in waves beginning at 6 am and continuing until 4 pm. Team RevelSports.com/Marshfield Clinic started at 4 pm battling against the other top teams with the lead changing frequently. Along the way they passed all but 26 of those earlier starting teams.

The clear winner would not be decided until the end. The top three teams over 20 plus hours of racing would be separated by less than 9 minutes.

Team RevelSports.com/Marshfield Clinic finished in a COURSE RECORD 19:59:52 (6:10 average pace per mile) Overall winner and top masters team, repeating as defending Champion.

A team from the University of South Dakota Men’s Cross Country Team finished in 20:02:53 (6:11/mile) to claim 2nd place.

Team Brown Chicken Brown Cow from Iowa finished 3rd in 20:08:33 (6:12/mile)
