In support of scientific study and performance enhancement, SUGOI has designed and engineered a complete range of Race + Recovery products, featuring PISTON Compression Technology and Zone Construction.

Featuring PISTON TECHNOLOGY and Zone Construction

Enhanced circulation assists the removal of post activity build-up of lactic acid collected in muscle tissue. Improved circulation combined with enhanced muscle stabilization for reduced muscle damage all assist in speeding recovery.

Reduced Fatigue and Enhanced Muscle StabilitySugoi Compression for Improved Circulation

Targeted muscle groups are isolated and fully encapsulated, resulting in muscle vibration reduction. The muscle group is stabilized by the garments, resulting in less immediate fatigue and reduced chance of injury.

Improved Circulation

Race + Recovery garments help pump blood back to the heart, allowing for more efficient distribution of oxygen. Improved circulation results in the removal of by-products of muscle exertion such as carbon dioxide and lactic acid, which commonly cause cramps and discomfort.

Improved Accuracy and Efficiency of Movement

SUGOI Race + Recovery garments improve accuracy and efficiency of movement. This can lead to improved performance across a range of sports, including a more efficient: Position on the bicycle, Running stride, Swimming stroke.

Fabric Technology

SUGOI PISTON fabric technology - the key ingredient in SUGOI's new R+R Compression clothing - polyamide based materials boast the lowest weight per square inch that is available for compression. Combined with SUGOI's proprietary PowerKnit process, 3D ergo fit panel ZoneConstruction, and attention to detail, the result is high quality compression gear which supports you through a vast range of activities.

SUGOI’s Race + Recovery compression collection features PISTON fabric technology, a tight warp knit construction with a high stretch modulus which ensures a light weight, breathable fabric, with extremely strong and consistent compression.

Zone Construction is the process of engineering fit and function. To ensure graduated levels of compression and muscle encapsulation, SUGOI engineers Zone Construction to deliver maximum performance.

The benefits of graduated compression have been thoroughly studied and quantified; the key to a successful graduated compression collection is how you then interpret that data. "The SUGOI Race + Recovery collection with PISTON technology provides athletes with the proper graduated support using Zone Construction, which increases circulation and reduces the chance of injury." – Dr. Michael Hunt, Ph.D. ( Dr. Michael Hunt, Ph.D. has specialized in compression technology for over 10 years with DuPont Lycra Dow XLA)

Engineered graduated compression through Zone  Construction creates specific compression rings that provide lateral forces against the body, with the greatest force at the extremities that gradually decrease as you move closer to the heart. Zone Construction allows SUGOI to deliver balanced graduated compression at the recommended 0.6 lbf/inch at 50% garment elongation. For example, if the calf section of a relaxed garment measures 10 inches in circumference; then, when it is stretched around the calf during wear it will measure 15 inches to achieve 50% elongation. At 50% elongation the fabric compression is measured at 0.6 lbf/inch.

Working in conjunction with the body’s skeletal muscle pump, contraction and relaxation of calf muscles forcing blood to be pumped back towards the heart, Zone Construction compression rings enhance blood flow and increase circulation of oxygenated blood within the body.

SUGOI PISTON fabric delivers powerful compression. This balanced compression provides nearly equivalent stretch and recovery in both fabric directions (warp and weft). When tested, PISTON delivers 0.6 pounds per square inch (lbf/inch)* based on 50% garment stretch.

* 1 pound per square inch (psi) = 6.9Pa (6.9kg / ms2)

Based on studies conducted by DuPont when developing Lycra Power compression garments, appropriate compression is achieved at 0.6 lbf/inch at 50% fabric elongation.

  • Powerful stretch and recovery
  • Balanced Compression
  • Both fabric directions nearly equivalent

At SUGOI, we believe that any garment claiming graduated compression attributes should provide compression forces ranging between 5-15 mm Hg.

Mm Hg is the abbreviated version of millimeters of mercury, a standard unit of pressure. A pressure transducer is utilized to measure the mm Hg levels of compression force applied to the body by compression fabric.

Compression above 15 mm Hg serves medical purposes, like devices made for individuals with diabetes and serious circulatory ailments.

Between 1991 and 2001, DuPont Lycra conducted a series studies on the physiological benefits of compression apparel and graduated compression hosiery. These studies led to an industry recommended level of compression for healthy, active individuals ranging between 5-15 mm Hg. Visit SUGOI.COM for reference studies and supporting data.

As an industry leading expert in design and engineering of athletic apparel, SUGOI supports the scientific studies conducted on the physiological benefits of compression and endorses industry experts who recommend levels of compression ranging between 5-15mm Hg.

No two bodies are alike - body shapes vary depending on many factors; bone structure, muscle mass and percentage of body fat. Because of this, SUGOI engineers R+R garments using Zone Construction and PISTON fabric technology to deliver recommended levels of graduatedSugoi Compression Fit compression (5-15 mm Hg) to accommodate ectomorph, mesomorph and endomorph body types.

June 15, 2007 – AWI and Sugoi, a leading athletic apparel manufacturer, have teamed up to introduce the new Wallaroo line of Merino active wear and retailers across North America are clamoring to order the revolutionary new line.

This is the first time in Sugoi’s history, that the company is using natural fiber in one of its lines, having preferred high performance synthetics in the past.

SUGOI has been building a legacy of compression apparel for more than twenty years. The Race + Recovery (R+R) Compression product line is the result of SUGOI's constant pursuit of excellence in delivering the highest benefits to athletes through incredible apparel.

Compression is a medically proven and tested technology for athletes. Dr. Michael Hunt, Ph.D., has specialized in compression technology for over 10 years with DuPont Lycra Dow XLA, and states that "SUGOI has a proven history of incorporating the highest level of technology and materials within their lines, and the new SUGOI R+R collection is no exception. All SUGOI R+R Compression garments capitalize on focused compression with SUGOI Piston Technology, and provide athletes with graduated support, which increases circulation and reduces the chance of injury."

For 20 years, Sugoi, a Japanese term for “incredible,” has produced the best-looking, best-performing athletic apparel for runners, cyclists, Triathletes and fitness enthusiasts.

Sugoi was among the very first companies to recognize that recreational athletes want and need high performance clothing just much as do pros. Thus, while Sugoi has a complete line of sleek and form-fitting race apparel Triathlon, Triathlon and Cross Country Skiing, this technology is also used to make outstanding apparel that fits and flatters the recreational athlete.

Sugoi focuses on exceptional fit, details and reliable performance and looks to develop technical solutions for cardiovascular sports. After conducting a significant amount of research, Merino was chosen for its position as both a natural and technical fiber as well as for its soft hand. Athletes also appreciate the breathability and durability that Merino provides.

To represent Merino’s key properties, the new collection is fittingly named, Wallaroo, after a breed of kangaroo most adaptive to hot and cold temperatures. Merino has excellent thermal regulation and moisture movement, to keep people comfortable in all conditions, even when they’re wet.

“We’ve already had fantastic bookings and the response has truly been spectacular,” said Stan Mavis, president of Sugoi. “The buyers were surprised that it was so luxurious and had almost a cashmere hand to it.”

“AWI introduced us to a special enzyme wash that can be used to take out the coarser fibers and produce a more uniform and consistent product that washes and wears very well,” said Mavis. “North American society is a washer/dryer society so it was important that the product be washer/dryer friendly.”

The Wallaroo collection features two different weights of Merino and seven styles of men’s and women’s apparel. Certain pieces are intended to be used for base layering while others can be worn independently depending on the activity. The new collection is consistent with other Sugoi lines, featuring the same look and feel and performance oriented stitching despite the move to Merino.

Stuart McCullough, director of North American Operations at AWI, is enthusiastic about the new line and how it is already changing common misperceptions about Merino.

“AWI is constantly looking for ways to spread the word that Merino is not the itchy, scratchy product it used to be,” said McCullough, who spearheaded the Sugoi partnership with AWI. “Sugoi, with its vast network of retailers around the world, is a perfect company to facilitate this initiative. Because of their high-tech nature, Sugoi is a company that is studied by many of the major North American retailers as a cutting-edge innovator of product. We are working hard to ensure that we extend the adoption by retailers of the new merino wool products that show the product as luxurious, soft and easy-care.”

“Sugoi! That’s incredible in any language”
